MMRCHA Going Strong
First allow me to apologize for getting behind on the updates. MMRCHA is a very active club with many events and demos being held and your web editor fell a bit behind, but let me catch everyone up.
Our 2014 Spring Fling helicopter funfly was once again a great success. This year MMRCHA decided to donate all proceeds to the Susan G. Koman foundation. I am proud to report that MMRCHA raised and donated $ 3,000.00 to the group!!! The weather proved to be a challenge but all who attended really stepped up to make this possible.
Soon after the helicopter funfly, MMRCHA was invited to put on demonstration flights at Lake George, Michigan for the Dogs & Rods event put on by the Lake George Neighborhood Watch group. A beautiful day was spent putting on flight demonstrations with airplanes, helicopters, and multi-rotors. The members of the community had many questions as many had never seen radio controlled aircraft. Everyone had a great time.
On June 22nd, MMRCHA once again held its annual TAG (Take off And Grow) event in conjunction with the Mt. Pleasant Discovery Museum. Attendance was a bit down this year, in part because it was held on Sunday this time, but many people had their first opportunity to try flying a radio controlled airplane. We even had a few students that returned from prior years to get a chance at the sticks again!!!
Flying is going on at both fields. Some clubs from the Lansing area paid a visit to our Avalon Tahoe Field in Alma to take a look at it and were quite impressed taking ideas back for their own club.
AMA Impressed by MMRCHA's Club Trainer
AMA to build identical one to be used for Camp AMA Program
(Update....Camp AMA was a great success and the Mentor shined. Several of the AMA's other airplanes did not fair as well but the Mentor performed flawlessly. The instructor pilots who flew it were quite pleased!!!)
As may of you know, our primary club trainer used for events such as our TAG event held in conjunction with the Mt. Pleasant Discovery Museum and our Celebration of National Aviation has been looked at by many other clubs because of the successes we have had with it. Because of this, AMA has decided to utilize our build specification to create a trainer to be used at their Camp AMA program. Great job MMRCHA members!!!
MMRCHA Adds New Plane to Club's Trainer Fleet
MMRCHA has brought online a new airplane to our trainer fleet to be used to provide the opportunity for people interested in trying their hand at R/C flying. The new plane is by EFlight and is called the Apprentice S15e. This plane will be used primarily at the Avalon Tahoe flying site in Alma, MI and is an excellent trainer. MMRCHA instructors will have this plane on site on student nights (dates to be published soon) as well as other times when we are flying there. It will supplement our Alpha 40 electric trainer.
Our Woodruff Lake flying site will still primarily use the Maxford Mentor G with sometimes the use of the Alpha 40.
Keep an eye on the website for dates and times but always feel free to contact us if you are interested and want to explore the world of R/C
Could Spring Really Be Around the Corner!!!!
The 2013 Holiday Classic was held and was a great success. Pictures will be posted a bit later with a full write up to follow!!! Thank you to all who participated and thank you for your generous contributions!!!
Adults and children came to enjoy the thrills of flight
Many came out to celebrate National Aviation Day with MMRCHA at the Woodruff Lake Flying Site. Attendees had the opportunity to have an introductory flight in a full scale airplane thanks to the Mt. Pleasant EAA Chapter 907 and the Woodruff Lake Airport Association.
The afternoon provided the attendees to try their hand at flying a radio control airplane. The day was perfect and everyone had a great time.

Avalon Tahoe Airpark is NOW OPEN!!!
June 29, 2013 saw the official opening of the Avalon Tahoe Airpark in Alma, Michigan. This beautiful facility is located right in the heart of Alma, Michigan and has one of the most unique features of any radio control air facility in Central Michigan; a Geotextile runway surface.
The Avalon Tahoe Airpark was a joint effort from Avalon Tahoe Manufacturing, the City of Alma, and MMRCHA to develop a flying field close enough that the community as a whole can enjoy and participate in radio controlled modeling.
Academy of Model Aeronautics District 7 Vice President Tim Jesky was on hand for the opening ceremony. People from as far as Lansing came to witness the opening and take their first flights on this new runway. Phenomial was one of the comments. Another person said they were amazed at how even the smallest of planes could take off and land on the surface.
Photos of the day can be viewed by clicking here.
